For me he was One of the top five most influential players ever.
An exponent of Sexy football, and a player who woke up the senses of millions of kids to dream and try to be beautiful and precise whilst playing their beloved game.
It was a different time when football for boys was truly king, no computers no mobile phones if you were lucky a bike and a ball were all you needed along with heroes like Cruyff in the minds eye and you were ready to dream .
R.I.P the great brilliant Johan Cruyff.

Terrible shame. Absolutely adored watching him in that stunning Dutch outfit with Neeskins and Johnny Rep, Rensenbrink and the Van Der Kerkeoff brothers.
Left memories and a legacy that mean it`s possible to use an overused word in todays pathetic cheap media run world.
Genius.

There was something about those World Cups with the dodgy picture and commentary that sounded like it was coming from the moon. Even now I can remember that Dutch team and they should have won at least one World Cup in the 70's, I think all they were missing was a striker of world class quality. But Cruyff, what a player.

Very sad news.....wonderful wonderful player. Kids for ever will be trying/calling Cruyff turns without knowing who he was - what a legacy. That image when he did it for the first time leaving the full back on his arse is the stuff of legends.

RIP a genius on the pitch.
Best team I ever watched Holland during the 74 world cup the way they used to pass it around the pitch. Didn't always finish it off in the final third, but brilliant to watch. Total football.

I remember watching that game at the world cup when he did that turn. Probably the only time when something in a football match has literally taken my breath away.

The best european player of all times IMO.
Together with his Ajax and Duitch teammates like Neeskens, Krol, Haan, Suurbier changed the world of football and the way of playing.
At the beginning of the 70s they were unplayable like someone else has written before.
